What is behind your Plasterboard?

We had a Thermal Survey done in January. This showed that the plasterboard had been installed with only dabs of cement which does not comply with the NHBC Standard which states that a continuous line of cement should be at the perimeters of the plasterboard. We have therefore, air flow within all the cavities.
Does anyone know whether the absence of perimeter seals is against fire regulations?
The builder has not yet offered a solution, but this is a large problem as all houses on this estate were plastered by the same company and we expect that they will have the same problem.
If you are having lots of drafts in your house, ask the builder to check whether the plasterboard has been installed correctly.

Sounds like a nice little earner for the contractor cutting corners, the contractors own site foreman turning a blind eye to sloppy skimping work, confirms lack of competent overall site management not doing drop in audits and lastly depending upon the insurer bad overviewing by NHBC or the like surveyors to ensure the site quality and workmanship was evident. Really just another normal day on the UK building sites .....out of sight out of mind. Hope they screw the contractors for max compensation however as usual they will probably declare themselves insolvent or just close the business..... leaving the punter with one hell of a mess to live with and total disruption redoing the lot.

We have bad drafts coming through in the living room. How much do Thermal surveys cost? Are there any other ways to know if they installed corrrectly.

Mine cost £450, so not cheap and can only be done during winter when you have large temperature differentials between inside and outside of the house. Quicker and cheaper way is to drill a few holes in the plasterboard around the edges and put a camera probe inside. this will see if you have a continuous band of cement or just dabs.

new build inspector

snagging inspections 01788 494400
IF YOU BOOK A SNAGGING INSPECTION with NEW BUILD INSPECTIONS , they will do both as part of your inspection and this costs around the same as a thermal inspection , plus you get a snagging inspection done as well

gra is correct ...best results from thermal is when theres some large temp differences at night or in autumn winter
