Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some practical advice on pool maintenance. I recently started taking care of a residential pool and want to make sure I’m following the right routine. How often should I check and balance the chlorine, pH, and alkalinity levels?

Also, how frequently should I clean the filters, skim the surface, brush the walls, and vacuum the bottom? I’d appreciate any tips for preventing algae, cloudy water, and other common pool problems.

Do you recommend any particular maintenance schedule or products that make the process easier?

What mistakes should beginners avoid when maintaining a pool regularly?

A good routine makes keeping your pool clean and healthy much easier. I’d recommend testing chlorine and pH at least 2–3 times a week, and more often during very hot weather or heavy use. Keep the pH around 7.2–7.6 and maintain appropriate chlorine levels for your pool type. When it comes to pool maintenance, skim debris daily if possible, brush the walls and floor weekly, and vacuum as needed. Check the filter regularly and clean it according to the manufacturer’s instructions rather than waiting until water flow drops. Keeping the water balanced is the best way to prevent algae and cloudy water. Avoid adding chemicals without testing first, and never mix pool chemicals together.
