Persimmon Internet Fight! Help!

New Build Inspections
Just for info,
I have had the draft emailed for the article appearing in the Readers Digest! Cannot wait to see it in print, they have kept their promise to list my website in the article too.
I have had over 3,000 hits in less than four months and it will be interesting to see how many hits a worldwide publication generates. The counter is at the bottom of the page for all to see.
Wonder how many people will know Persimmon as Pishsimmon after this? I still cannot believe that my snagging list is still not complete.
It is a question of generating new business not repeat business.

Hi Steve,

I would really like to see a copy of the article - could you mail it to me.

You are absolutely right - they are simply not interested in repeat business as location is the most important factor when buying a property.

In the olden days marketeers used to say that an unhappy customer would tell 10 people and a happy customer would tell one if you were lucky - now unhappy customers can reach thousands of people every day on the Web

Well done

Tony

Brilliant website, well done and good luck. I am frustrated with Persimmon just as much as you are and have emailed my story to you, but for that lucky individual who has had a good experience with Persimmon (my question would be why are you even reading this site then if thats the case?), here goes:

We reserved a property on the Waterside estate in East Morton - West
Yorkshire in July 2006. At the time of reservation we were told an
expected completion date of Dec 2006 and this was confirmed in
writing.

This soon became clear that there was no chance of this date being
achieved as no building was beginning, however I was still threatened
in early Dec to exchange contracts otherwise Persimmon would pull out.
Interestingly enough I had been chasing Persimmon via my Solicitor
since Sept to respond to a question on the garden to allow us to
exchange, they choose to ignore that question and never responded.

Since then I have had no formal communication from Persimmion
regarding a delay in the build ( good job I live locally and can see
that its not being built on time!). I have just had the off phone call
from the Sales Advisor with messages about the time they are looking to
be off the site, this was Feb, April, June, Sept . I have now been told
by the 4th site Manager that he was heading for a date of 1st Oct but
is behind so this is also unlikely.

Our lives have been in limbo for the past year, we havent been able to
book holidays or make plans etc as we are no nearer to knowing when
this property will be complete. We have been in rented accomodation
since Sept 2006 and our furniture in storage and in addition to this we
have now lost over 1 year on a 5 year fixed rate mortgage which was
taken out in Sept 2006, it will cost us to change the rate (£600) and
also as rates have gone up it is not beneficial for us to do that so we
now have a 4 year rate instead of a 5 year.

I have been contacting Persimmon Head Office since April 2007 asking
for some formal correspondence and an offer of acceptable compensation.
We have been offered £500, this does not even cover the cost of
changing the rate or the interest that persimmon have made on our
deposit. This was offered on an email by the only useful member of
staff at Persimmon , who is Esther McHugh. I am now waiting for the
4th month for formal correspondence from Wayne Gradwell.

Any ideas what my options are or do you know any similar stories ?

Lisa,
It is unfortunate and amazing to think that yours is not a one off situation. So many people have had enough. We are on our third site manager too and he is leaving soon. I would not do that job for a golden cow!
I have passed on your email to the lady at ITV1 so please let me know if she has been in touch.

Tony,
I have spoken to the Readers Digest on the phone now and changed a few points in the pending article. I have asked them to replace things like a dodgy loft hatch with my garage roof not being secured down. They work three months in advance but nevertheless she is expecting to make the September issue. If I get a final draft I will forward it to you. I will keep you updated on the progress.

We have all just got to keep the pressure on these builders. I was interviewed (on the phone) for an article in 'The Scotsman' newspaper about the OFT's investigation just a few days ago. The emphasis was not on the snags but what kind of legislation could improve the situation.

Best Regards,
Steve.

Hi Colin,
The question caught me by surprise but my answer was based on the way that commercial properties work.
My understanding is that a retainer of 10% or £10,000 (depending on property value) is held back for a set period eg 6 months. This money is payable on a specific date providing that certain criteria are met, one of which being the satisfactory completion of reasonable snags.
I think this would be a good idea as housebuilders listen to money talking.

At the bottom of the article is a link to the OFT and also www.pishsimmon.com any publicity is welcome right now.
Thanks,
Steve.

Nice one Steve - I didn't realise you were in Scotland. Have you seen this?

e-petition Scotlan

Retainers are a good idea but almost impossible to organise for non-commerical buyers at the moment. Most people would prefer to have a finished house, buyers should be empowered by making it the buyer's surveyor who signs the house off as ready for habitation. If the house was not ready and the buyer had to move in the surveyor would also negotiate the value of the retainer. There is a question of affordability, perhaps this role could be performed by a home inspector for the PIP or HIP. Oh I forgot, the builders manged to get an exemption from having to provide Home Condition Reports for new builds...

Another post reminded of another possible remedy - make new build come under the goods and services act and make the mortgage provider equally liable for any defects, which would be an extension of the Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act.

This would mean that if the developer did not fix the defect within 14 days, yes 14 days. You could equally go to the mortgage provider. You could then get someone else to fix it for you and bill the developer or the mortgage provider!

The mortgage providers would certainly respond by not releasing funds till they were satisfied with the finish of the house.

Coatham Protest...

I think for all you people out ther who really want to see what Persimmon, in collusion with a local authority, are capable of, then google coatham protest and see for yourselves.

They simply dont care...

Did anyone see the article in the Telegraph I think it was, a few weeks ago? Good old Persimmon, bless their hearts, had taken a ten thousand pound deposit off a young couple to build them a house and despite having had this deposit for some considerable length of time, they still haven't even started on their house and wont be for some considerable length of time to come. As if this wasn't bad enough for the couple, their mortgage offer expires next month and so it looks as though their ten grand is going to be lost.

Not only that, who saw, once again in the Telegraph, how Persimmon had simply downed tools on one of their existing sites because of the ecconomic climate in this country and left behind them a derelict building site that is attracting crime and anti social behaviour?

Ive also heard about a man and his family in York, who have all apparantly been poisoned as a result of Persimmon building apartments on a contaminated site, that was directly opposite their house. It seems that York city council ignored all of the warnings and tried to play down the dangers so that Persimmon could crack on and build their monstrosities. What makes this worse, is that the local press, played this story down too!

Yep, sounds about right to me. This cowboy outfit dont care, despite all of their spin, about anything other than money and profit. Peoples lives and health? Nah they dont matter. Dereliction? Nah that doesn't matter either. Just money.

Nice eh?:(

Hi there,

Hope you are still winning.
TAKE THESE PEOPLE TO COURT!!!
Don't waste time giving them time to rectify as they cannot be bothered.

Anybody see the tragic story in the papers about the four year old boy who was crushed when the mantlepiece in the Persimmon home he was living in, came away from the wall and crushed him. Go to the coatham protest site and you can see and read all about it. Its really tragic.

Persimmon ignored my snagging for months until I set up the website below and put the snagging list online:
Global Warming Electrical Heating
Now they are working through the snags but still have not finished them.
I have had the website host forward an email from Persimmon demanding my website be taken down as the snags are 'complete'. Persimmon claim I have told them they are complete and because of this the website should be removed by the host! The snags are not complete or signed off!
I need help, anyone know an internet lawyer who can advise? I will pay, I just want to know it is good advice.
In the meantime visit my website while you can! Over 2,500 hits in less than 3 months so far!

i would love to look at your web site but it is not there ???

I'd love to visit pishsimmon.....

But the link takes you to a page about global warming. So they got to you in the end, then.

You can still see the website when last cached here:

Ok, I can't post a link but use the Way Back Machine to see the archive.

Hello there, you all must have heard about Persimmons' involvement in the multi million pound Thamesmead mortgage fraud taking place at Southwark Crown Court at the moment? What? You haven't? According to the prosecution in the case, Persimmon were instrumental in the fraud. The thing is that miraculously they escaped investigation because the police there said that they didn't have the resources to investigate them? How can that happen? Go to the Coatham protest blog to read the full court report.
