Hi All,
Hoping for next step advice, we bought new build at end of August, we have had a few issues but the builder has rectified them fairly swiftly. Site manager is very helpful and happy to get things done eventually. However one big issue remains and that is the quality of the plasterwork. I believe it is outside of the tolerances set by the NHBC, some of the walls and ceilings look terrible, all undulating and uneven, with a straight edge placed on the surface you can see the gaps lots over 3mm etc..
So 2 areas the developer has already tried to rectify, one wall has been reskimmed and is much better, but the other areas the developers quality control manager came out with a 1800mm spirit level with 2 offcuts of wood sellotape to each ends and a metal ruler, he placed the level on the wall and took 3 readings each end and middle and deemed the walls are within tolerance and that 'they' would not be doing anything about it. We 'discussed' the issues, questioned him on his inspection technique, I pointed out with my own straight edge etc.. but he was having none of it, he said if I wasn't happy I would need to go to through the warranty claim to progress.
So I logged claim with NHBC but have now been told that they don't cover plasterwork issues under their resolution process. I could speak to the consumer code but looking through the categories they cover it doesn't appear these issues are covered..
So what next... who enforces the tolerances that the NHBC set?
Do I get a snagging survey carried out? I need someone official to confirm what am I seeing... If I get a survey carried out is this offical enough to enable me to pursue the developer to get the issue rectified?
Comments welcome... tia..
