Well I'd love to be in a position to be snagging right now; when we turned up to move into our house just outside Edinburgh on Friday 8th December it wasn't even ready and DWH won't give us a firm date when it will be.

The last we heard from the on site sales adviser was her pushing us to move in on the 8th but because the sales office is shut midweek we then had to deal with DWH (regional?) head office in Glasgow and they confirmed to us through the week that we were moving in on Friday, with DWH solicitors pushing our to settle on Friday. We had to ring head office during the afternoon of the day before we were due to move in because their solicitor tried to bill our solicitor for twice as much as we should have been paying for extras, and they reconfirmed that we were moving in the next day.

The first we heard about any problem was when our solicitor rang us on the Friday morning to say that DWH's solicitor was attempting to return the settlement money and that maybe we should head down to the sales office to see what the problem was. When we got down there we found out that the house simply was not ready and that our earliest move in date was the following Thursday, a date which they would not now confirm. We had the flooring contractors, removal company, week off work etc all lined up to run frm the Friday and now we have no idea whether we will be able to rearrange any of them this side of New Year. What's more we are currently staying in a short term let property due to a previous delay and have already given our week's notice (allowing a little overlap to get our flooring installed before we move our stuff in) so have nowehere to stay once we have to move out of here.

After a day of nagging and phone calls I eventually got a call back from the DWH Sales Director at around 5 pm on the Friday and she admitted that everything was her fault as she had known that our house was to be delayed but hadn't told anyone. However when I asked about compensation for having our plans ruined she said that DWH would consider any written request for quantifiable costs we could prove we had incurred as a result of the delay and no more. Wonderful, compassionate customer service!
