I hate to say this but I am not at all surprised. The problems are exactly the same as the house problems that have occurred on our development. The reason - DWH use the cheapest contractors they can find and do not quality control them. The result is poor and defective workmanship, which if they are lucky will go unnoticed. But the ones that have problems then have a 3-4 year fight on their hands!!!!! good luck I hope you fair better than some on this development. Will I buy again from DWH.......................no way!!!! If I had seen this before exchange of contracts, I wouldn't have bought the house.

I am in a years worth of correspondence with David Wilson including letters to/from Pauline Turnball and I have never know a company to make so many mistakes. I would ask that if you are considering buying a David Wilson Home, please make sure it is a serious consideration. Once the deal has been completed the service is poor. I am in a development where we have 4 houses that have serious issues that are involving P.Turnball, one family are living in a hotel while the defect are sorted (1 year on).
We have just had an independant inspection of the house and he was shooked by the level of finish and recorded 18minutes of snagging, this will add to my list of 150 items that have been highlighted to D.Wilson already.
Serious items - fire alarms not fitted or tested (we moved in with a one month old baby). Our roof requires replacing as the tiles have not been laid in the correct manner. I could go one...........
Ensure that you contact the Regional MD - e-mail is good and the e-mail address are generic (firstinitalsurname@dwh.co.uk) so by looking at the website you can aim your replies. I must say even the board of directors do not reply and seem that interested in customers so you have been warned.

Its interesting that you say the roof isn't fitted correctly, probably it has been fitted by the same sub contractor -tin pot and co - cheapest quote!!! We live on an estate where 3 of the houses have had the roof replaced and 1 other has had remedial work done on it. Not to mention the house that is now owned by David Wilson homes as they had to buy it back from the owner!!!! Pity as this is now rented out to the unsuspecting public.

We are in 2009 and the legacy of cheap contractors, poorly managed sites, and badly built homes by David Wilson lives on!

I gave them 2 yrs of my time and more defects were found and I am still waiting for more to be put right. This has now gone to legal proceedings unfortunately and I have a very strong case .

Hope this helps those of you still in this situation.

Hi there,
Since the take over of David Wilsons by Barratts, the company has tightened its belts and the way in which it operates against claims against them. Instead of being approachable and understanding, they have been unresponsive and unwilling to cooperate. But my home has been proven to be outside the NHBC regulations which they cannot dispute. The battle still goes on despite this change in attitude. More information is required as my case reaches full speed ahead.

David wilson vs barratt

My research into this merger has been interesting,
David wilson in it`s own right constructed some great elegant houses over the years and became known for quality but expensive houses.

Barratt homes Also had a great range of houses called the "premier collection, I think they are the uk`s most known house builder. The quality was questionable, but the houses looked good.

Barratt had started to get a bad reputation for the quality of there houses and they were popular for the building up and squeezing as many plots in as they could, David Wilson still retained it`s name.
Barratt then decided to Use the David Wilson name to there ability and re-branded some sites to David Wilson. So unless they respect the quality and up market name of Dw, We could see more and more threads about David Wilson.
Looking back the same idea was used with Kings-oak homes, a upmarket name...How long did that last.
Here in stoke Barratt have brought the old silverdale colliery site and its now marketed under 2 sites by barratt and Dw Under the same site name...If only people knew.

People werent taken in by Kingsoak homes. Most knew it was Barratt with a different flag.

It can be difficult keeping an eye on it with all the mergers going on.

David Wilson is Barratt. DWH will operate under the 'Barratt way' and will be reflected in the quality of the so-called "David Wilson Homes".
