New Build Inspections

Hi All,

We have reserved a new house couple a weeks ago (house didn't have a roof in that time). Last week we have had a site walk before completion (house is ready) and I have found few thinks that we definitely don't like. Unfortunately Site Manager is not interested to change/fix them. Could you please advise how to speak/force them to get it sorted out?

1) Door handle hits the rad, and you cant open the door to a full 90deg angle - both bathrooms are the same

2) Alarm cable to the garage looks like not an outdoor grade and is not protected from a mechanical damage

3)Pipes under a kitchen sink are fit the way that there is no space for nothing in the cupboard. Its not as on plan, when the main water pipe should be closer to the wall - the same like a drain. Site Manger said that he doesn't have to stick to the plans

Could you advise please how it looks like in term of a building regulations?

Thanks a lot

Hi,

Where are you based? My client B & D Snagging Inspection Specialists provide detailed snagging reports to take to your builder. They cover Southern UK.

Their direct number is: 07788 100188
Or they may be able to advise you on how to get things rectified.

Hope this helps.

Not wanting to put you off, but we’ve had 6 months of misery with David Wilson Homes. We feel like we made a mistake and should have backed out when we had the chance.

Having to deal with the Assistant site manager has got us nowhere. But finally the Site Manager showed up and has agreed to get things done. Still waiting though.

The doors in your bathrooms are typical of the plots here. If one door is an ensuite though then the door should actually open into the bedroom. You can check the plans to see this. Ours does not and they have finally agreed to switch it round. They put a stopper in the floor to stop the other hitting the radiator.

We posted a lot of our snags here https://twitter.com/mydwhometoo

If the Site Manager isn’t interested then you have a long battle ahead. Just make sure you record and date everything and keep a paper trail (email) then eventually NHBC will start to lean on them but still it takes forever to get anything done.

If you have signed any form of contract with these people then ensure everything is in writing to the Managing Director at the office building your property.
Why anybody does any form of contact with this company either by telephone or verbally should be a mystery. This company is only interested in your money, not you or your problems. This could be the start for you of what is known as the David Wilson experience. The picture on the brochure is not the one you are getting and we all suspect that their quality inspections are tick boxed from the nearest motorway service station.

If you have not signed a contract with these people then walk away. Currently you are complaining about things you can see. What about the things you cannot see?

If however you want to spend the next two years of your life talking to David Wilson Customer Service ( technical ability the same as my cat), then go ahead.
