Hello
We have recently bought a new house and the floor in our utility room is very cold. Our house has a attached double garage and the utility room runs along the back of the garage. There is a door from the garage in to the utility room, a door from the utility in to the main house and a door to the rear garden.
Now, when I say the floor is cold is it so cold that you really cant spend any time in the room with bare feet. There is a huge difference in the temperature of the floor just through in the main house. I have a volt meter with a temp probe and I measure the main house floor temp at 22/23oC and the utility at 17oC.
The overall effect is that he utility itself is very cold, there is a radiator in the room which is on full. We have been measuring the room temp over the last couple of days and while the main house has been 20oC the utility at the same time is measuring 12/13oC.
The developer is investigating and has installed additional insulation in the loft and under the cupboards but we are not finding the room drafty.
I really feel the coldness is penetrating the room through the floor - but I am being told by the developer that the floor construction in the utility is the same as the main house so can not be the problem.
I am not sure how I would check this. Or, even if the room was really drafty, could it chill the floor as much as is happening.
Any advice greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Andy
P.S. Floors are concrete slab I think
