9 months of hell

New Build Inspections

Bought a miller home 9 months ago and it's shear hell can't say to much as this is now going to court. Nhbc is involved for inside and out and I've got two big signs in the garden trying to warn other buyers. They just don't care

I bet they do! Putting up signs on your house and setting up website stating what is wrong and warning others normally works a treat.

Try writing to Keith Miller or Tim Hough, quoting their website and customer satisfaction claims.

Good luck with the Court case, dont forget to come back and tell us how you got on!

I would let Miller know this is your intention of they dont start to show they care.
Good reputations are difficult to get, bad reputaions are very easy!

Ensure everything you state is true though and can be backed up if necessary.

I am have much the same experience - bought 2 houses last yr (3bed & flat)
I have complained and complained and complained - no-one listened (not even Keith Miller himself) - almost 80 Emails+ photographs - I have the dist-list of all so-called Directors in Miller if you want it
They referred me to their solicitor - she was rubbish - got everything wrong - guess she was just trying to frustrate me - she did
They have now refused to speak to me altogether and referred me to the NSBC
I have one of their building projects (adjacent to mine) suspended at the moment on the grounds of H&S negligence - just trying to get them to listen
I have a whiteboard outside my house that simply says Caveat Emptor (let the buyer beware)
They don't know yet that I am a Website Developer - I hope to have something LIVE soon - if you'd like to contribute your experiences I'd be happy to include them
Best wishes with your cause
Linda

This is disgraceful! 80+ emails and even CEO Keith Miller has not reacted!

It may be a silly question but have you tried writing a formal letter addressed to Keith Miller?

The reason I ask is that Miller make such a big deal out of their "Customer satisfaction" on their website and marketing.
I am sure they would want to do something about this.

Don't forget to tell Miller about your website and let us know here too.
I will link to it from my Miller page!

I will link to you next time I do some maintenance to the site.

Great website by the way.

Anyone with a Miller Home problem should check it out.
All the e mail addresses are there on the contact page.
Surely one person at Miller out of all this lot cares a litlle bit?

Miller now threatening to take us to court - claiming we owe them £15,000 ... and by the way, they don't like our Website :)

How can you owe Miller any money?

I am not surprised they dont like your website, they think they are better than that!
Don't be bullied by Miller, stick to your guns.

The H&S photos on your website say everything!

Have you considered a Subject Access Request under the Data Protection Act?
The information you get will be useful when you go to court.
Legally Miller have to send you everything they have about you and your home in your plot file or house file.
It only costs £10. see http://forum.snagging.org/barratt-homes/1840-barratt-david-wilson-home-file.html

Have you got Legal expenses cover either included, or as an extra with your home insurance?
If your website is all true, then even thouigh it may surpirse Miller, we do live in a free country and you are free to say what you think of Miller's
"allegedly" bad service. (Just covering myself!)

As long as you have not said anything that you cannot prove is true you have nothing to worry about.
It really comes to something when Miller would rather spend money on solicitors, than spend time to give you the customer service it says it provides on its own website!

They surely cannot risk this going public!

Tell them that you will get BBC Watchdog involved if their solicitor threatens you again!

Thanks for this. Will ensure Insurance does include legal cover. Even it it's retrospective.
I hope you are right about "freedom of speech" and Miller not risking this going public.
But we are panicking and feeling very stressed - not slept for weeks.
Wished a good Barrister was listening to this.
Thanks for the moral support.
Linda.
(PS can I be cheeky and ask what qualifies you as a NewHomesExpert)

I had a board too - it simply promoted my Website - Miller claimed both were "defamatory"
See my thread - Gateley (Miller Solicitors) have threatened us with legal action
Did you go to Court?

I have gone down the small claims court route a few times over the years. 100% success, with only 2 actually going through to judgement.

Whilst what you say may be considered by Miller as defamatory, you have a right to say it as loud as you like provided it is true.
You must say "in my opinion" if you cannot provide the validity of anything you say, especially for subjective or judgemental.
Things like "the painting standard in my house is rubbish" for example as others may think acceptable.

The information you have on your Miller Page is out of date.

Tim Hough is no longer cheif executive for Miller homes and hasn't been for several years ( he has now unfirtunately passed away)
Chris Endsor is now cheif exec

Thank you for the heads up.
Unfortunately, owing to the sheer size of the Brand New Homes website it is nigh on impossible to keep every piece of information current.
I am just one person managing the website for free.
Only last week I discovered (by accident) that as many as four Persimmon Regional directors had changed since the house builder pages were first created four years ago.
I do update the financial results and NHBC Awards on an annual basis and this year I am checking regional office addresses and directors for each builder as and when the page is upadated.

I have made the change ahead of this for the Miller Homes page.
Chris Endsor can now bask in his full glory of his position and angry Miller buyers now know who else to write to.
