Default Thornton Grange, Jackton, East Kilbride

Been viewing this forum from time-to-time and have been quite surprised to see no mention of the Stewart Milne development at Thornton Grange, Jackton, East Kilbride.

We have been there nearly a year and our experience of Stewart Milne has not been a good one.

We have had issues with the quality of workmanship since day one and have found Stewart Milne's response to the problems shockingly bad.

I'd be interested to hear if there are any other residents on the estate with continuing problems... or perhaps we were unlucky and got the only 'Friday' house...

Hi Runner,

Welcome to the forum. I think there are lots of people like you who "lurk" on the forums but are reluctant to post anything. Many are worried about the effect it will have on the perception of their homes and may make it difficult to sell in the future. Personally, I don't agree with this, but understand the feeling

Hi Tony.

You are totally correct. I have resisted posting for a while as I was worried about 'rocking the boat' so to speak.

We plan to stay in our house for the long term - we love the layout and space - it's just the quality and finish that is in question.

I'm just really annoyed after all the money we paid for our house that the builder is so slow / reluctant to put the faults right.

I was surprised how quickly this post showed up in google when I searched for our development so perhaps more residents will find the forum and share their views - positive or negative?

Hi,

Yes Google is pinged after every post so it is almost immediate. I think you might need to be more proactive to get your neighbours' views. Some have set up a kind of residents' committee - the builders hate this.

I am really interested by your post as I am most likely about to reserve a property in this development on Friday. I have been having a few niggling doubts so would really appreciate if you could give me a bit more information about your experience before I make a decision!!
I was originally going for Cala and have been told that they are better quality than Stewart Milne so maybe i should be holding off.

Thanks

Default Don't do it

Clare, from my experience with this builder don't do it. Sales staff lack client confidentiality and breach data protection issues with your details. The standard of workmanship is terrible. They make snide comments on their internal email system about you if you complain and basically don't give a dam to rectify your problems corectly.

Stewart Milne have just completed two sites in East Kilbride Thorton Grange and The Orchard, complaints from both sites.

Stay well clear they will have you in tears if not near to a nervous breakdown.

Clare - sorry for not replying sooner. Not been on here for a while.
Did you reserve in the end?
If I could go back a few years, knowing what I know now, I would not touch a SM house with a barge pole (To be fair I have heard negative comments regarding Cala too).
We are still struggling to have faults addressed. Hopefully a residents' committee will be formed soon then perhaps in numbers we can get some resolve.

Default You are not alone

Hi Runner

Just thought i would write to advise you that you are not alone. Although this developer would like you to believe that you are moaning minnie rest assured you are not alone. The quality and after care service provided by this builder is horrendous! The flats they built in the orchard development have had lots of problems and so have some of the houses.
If you have any questions regarding dealing with this developer please post on the forum and i will try to assist you.

I think customers from this developer need to stand up and prevent future buyers from a life destroying experience. The more people stand together the easier the fight can be won.

Default Better in numbers and email the media

I posted a reply on the other user's thread regarding your development. if you require any assistance just let me know as i have been in this situation with this developer.

It is good you have several residents with similar issues. If no joy get onto the Judge in the Sunday Mail, seems to be the only thing they are fearful of and the more who do it the better.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

I think it's time that we did speak out about the shocking level of build quality and complete lack of customer care from SM - failing that we are going to be continually fobbed off with broken promises and bodged jobs.

I've been in touch with the Sunday Mail so fingers crossed they may be interested in picking this up - it would certainly help if any other residents also contacted them.

In the meantime I am working on a web site cataloging my experiences with this builder. Once it's finished I'll post a link oh here.
This thread comes up in the first page when you google Stewart Milne or Thornton Grange so plenty of people should be able to see it!
