Default Ensuite shower door wont open due to WC

Just got the keys to our new house (Wates developers), realised too late that we should have got it snagged before completing

Lucky we are not moving in for another 4 weeks, most of the items on the list were small and cosmetic, however the main concern is that the shower door in the ensuite wont open as they have placed the wc two inches to the right (compared to showhome and next door neighbours).

This means the door will only open about 30-40%! I have complained to the builders and recieved the standrd, we are looking into it and will have to get back to you on how long it will take to resolve.

Since we have completed, I assume there is not much i can do except keep chasing them to get the work done?

You have to be organised and keep meticulous records of communications, use registered post and take photos and send them to head office. Tell them you will give them thirty days (generous) to deal with the defects befopre you take your complaint to the NHBC.

Don't rely on conversations with site staff, they promise the world and might be gone tomorrow.

I hope this helps

Hi

I bought a Wates home and moved in Feb 2006, I'm still having problems with them... I would keep on top of them and as Tony said ensure you keep all correspondence. BTW please check that you have been given your gas certificates.....none of the houses sold to private owners had them - this is against regulations. Wates did put in writing that they didn't need to issue them....please double check you have everything!

Good luck!

Hi there,

Don't even waste your time. Give them 14 days and if the fault has not been rectified by then take them to the small claims court.
You could be chasing them for months to get them to actually do anything.
We wasted too much time getting involved with Bryant Homes and the NHBC (NHBC not worth the paper it is written on)
These people only respond to county court claims.
Good luck.
