Default ONGOING PROBLEMS!

Moved into new house August 2003. We have been plagued with snags since day 1 ranging from gas leaks, water leaks, cracks through bricks, cracking mortar, leaking doors, badly tiled bathrooms, faulty boiler and these are just a few. The Buider generally responds in timely fashion to any requests but the contractors they use are useless.
Surely if the contractors the Builder is using are not upto scratch then the homeowner must have some rights?

Default ONGOING PROBLEMS!

Hi Chaz,

You bought the house from the developer not the contractors and it is the developers obligation to fix the defects not the contractors. Obviously the cdeveloper is going to go for the cheapest option, which is to get the contractor to fix the defects. Unfortunately the contractor is not getting paid for this, so may not be very responsive. Perhaps the developers need better contracts with their contractors that take into account timely snagging, or perhaps the developers should take responsibility and fix your flawed house within a reasonable time frame rather than blaming the contractors.

Would you want the contractor who fitted a leaking gas system back? They should be locked up for that.

Good luck

Tony

Default ONGOING PROBLEMS!

I totally sympathize with you Chaz, new houses are a nightmare now - whichever builder you go for. My Barrratt house that we've been in a year has had the same sorts of faults as yours - 4 A4 sheets altogether, over 170 problems. We are still having workmen in repairing crappy work that was done originally. You would not be able to name one single thing that hasn't gone wrong in our house!!!!!
