Default TV Programme looking for problem homes

Posted with the permission of the site admin.

We've been contacted by a major TV programme who are intending to run a campaign about the defects found in new homes.

The TV company are looking for homebuyers who are having problems or struggling to get the NHBC or builders to repair the defects. Filming is due to start in the next few weeks for broadcast in a couple of months, but the intention is to run the campaign for the whole series.

If you are interested in taking part, please contact me via private message, or you can email me: steve(at)newbuildinspections(dot)com

Thank you

You can use our Taylor Wimpey house in Milton Keynes if interested. For details see my posts on the ongoing wait to get the house completed (legal completion was xmas eve).

Off Topic Maybe, so apologies if inappropriate . . .

but NHBC Claims Handler told me the NHBC Resolution Process was not designed to handle 'snagging lists' (snagging lists and defects are two different things he tried to claim) and then specifically that they would not entertain a snagging or defect list from professional snagging companies (he named two such companies to me - who in my view appeared to be the biggest and best know within the UK new homes market).

I have no doubt the Claims Handler was talking utter rubbish, but I also have no doubt his manager will try his best to back him up - because he has tried to back him up and continue the theme, that our complaints are snagging and not a list of potential defects. Funny I always thought a snagging list was a list of potential defects.

I'm curious to know what a professional snagging company would say in response to the claims handlers opinion on professional snagging companies and the NHBC Resolution Process?

Curiously the NHBC (and the builder) don't want to meet (and/or agree) with our surveyor either - at least they have been putting this off now for many years, and continue to try to avoid it.

I have a couple of great examples.

From simple to possible complete rebuilds.

Whilst I can't speak for other snagging companies, we have a pretty good relationship with the NHBC and on the few occasions where the builder has failed to rectify the problems and we've had a resolution meeting with the NHBC, they have never rejected our lists.

We work to the NHBC technical standards so a defect list is, in its simplest form, a list of things that need attention to bring them up to the NHBC standard.

Our experience does not match yours of the NHBC and their clam handlers.

You say he named snagging companies? Can I ask if he named us - New Build Inspections?

Thanks for the response, but the request was actually for BBC Watchdog and the programme aired in May.

Dear Steve

Thank you

To all with problems against NHBC it is important that you view the watchdog programme.
It is very revealing as to the methods that this company uses in an attempt to negate their liabilities.
Search for it, to see how others coped against mighty insurance.

Good luck
