Default Persimmon Homes - Water Leaks

We moved into our new Persimmon Home in Exeter in December 06, 2 weeks later (over the Xmas/New Year Period) we had a leak from our shower. A plumber came out very quickly and fixed the problem. However, last week, some 6 months later, we noticed more water on our lounge ceiling. I contacted Persimmon customer care and they sent a plumber round. Because of the work they had to do to rectify this matter (put a hole in our son's bedroom to access the pipes for the shower in our en suite) and given that this matter had already been rectified, I asked for a gesture of goodwill, to be told they don't do that. 2 days later, more water on the lounge ceiling so I sent an email to the customer care dept expressing my opinions - a plumber came round and announced it was the hot water tank, not the shower this time and he arranged for somebody from the manufacturer to visit. The manufacturer sent a plumber yesterday and we've been told that we need a new hot water tank. The stress our new house is causing is unbelievable but Persimmon haven't even had the manners to apologise for all the inconvenience. All I get is the 'NHBC 2 year warranty' spiel. Advice please!!!

It is really worrying that you have had two separate leaks - it makes me wonder whether the system was properly installed and tested prior to commissioning. I would get a third-party to inspect the plumbing for peace of mind and bill this back to the developer. If they don't pay you could go down the small claim's route. Keep meticulous records of your costs and time off work.

    I hope this helps

After being sent a copy of my comments on this website, Persimmon Customer Care have contacted me and after discussion about what I was unhappy with, I have now received an apology for the fact that we have had these leaks and the inconvenience. As I didn't have an issue with the way they rectified the leaks, I am happy to leave the matter at that. Hopefully we will not encounter any more problems and we can get on with enjoying our new home - despite these problems we are very happy here and love our new home. Perhaps if anyone from persimmon reads these comments, they could learn a lesson - an apology is sometimes all it takes to ensure a satisfied customer...!
