I should add that the builder is NHBC registered (Bryant).
I'm looking to be armed with the facts before a meeting next week.
We've got a number of window scratches, some minor, some otherwise.
The site agent says they conform to the Glass & Glazing Federation (GGF) definition of what scratches count as issues. He gave me a copy of the regulations (dated 1984!) which basically state that scratches within 50mm of the edges do not count as issues. That rules out most of mine including a few bad ones at eye-line.
Meanwhile, the NHBC 'consistent finish' leaflet talks of the exclusion zone only being 6mm (not 50mm) from the edge.
Anyone got an opinion on where I stand or know whether the GGF's 50mm regulation from 1984 has been updated since?
Thanx.

My advice would be to log it with NHBC as soon as possible, i'm sure there is some limit on glass scratches been reported to the Builder so the sooner the better even if you don't need the NHBC.
Try and get the builder to put it in writing that they won't remedy the work, that way you have something to give to NHBC from the outset otherwise NHBC will give the builder 10 days to say whether or not they are going to remedy it and then a further 21 days to actually remedy it.
I speak from experience here and even when the builder fails to respond within the 10 days, NHBC don't do anything until the further 21 days are up(mine are up on Saturday).
all my kitchen windows are scratched very badly, this was caused when they washed the render off the windows,, wain homes said i had done it cleaning them so they refused to replace them..![]()
This is clearly ridiculous it is very hard to scratch glass - they even use it for chopping boards! They are trying to palm you off - escalate the complaint.
Cheers,
Tony

Windows can be easilly scratched especailly as most fo the galss is from Eastern Europe.
Stand 8 feet away in normal daylight (not sunlight). If you can see the scratch the glass should be changed.
I had an expert come out from the GGF who told me there were no issues with my doors and windows and that they had all been installed correctly. Then I got a window installer in who notice that the gaskets around the doors were of the wrong type, and that on the outside of one window 2 of the four gaskets were missing! The "expert" from the GGF had his professional expertise shot down in flames!
The GGF stands for The Glass and Glazing Federation.
It is in their interests to defend their members and industry.
In much the same way as the House Builders Federation will always defend the quality of new homes and never comment on any particular house builder building poor quality houses.
You may be better off trying FENSA to get your double glazing issues resolved.
