Hi all
Since moving into our new Redrow House in December we have had nothing but probelms. These are far too numerous to mention here but there is one particular problem I need some help with.
When we moved into the house half the windows were badly scratched. Redrow agreed to replace these windows. Our house is built on National Trust land and so the windows are imported from Eurpoe and are made of wood. Redrow decided to replace the glass in our windows, not using the company who supply and fit the windows, but instead using a local cheaper firm. We were informed by the Redrow site manager that this was because of cost.
When the local company replaced the windows it is fair to say that they made a mess of it. The most obvious problem is that they nailed the plynths (sp?) into the wood, thus splitting the wood, and also leaving the nail heads showing. This looks ridiculous when sat next to the untouched windows which have no nail heads showing. For example, one French door is encirled by nails while another original window has none.
The second major problem is that the edging inside the pane of glass which goes around the untouched windows is a very nice looking black. In the newly fitted window the edging is aluminium. So for example one French door is edged in Black and the other is aluminium. This looks ridiculous. Redow have suggested that to solve this they will change the finish of the other windows in the house to the inferior metal finish, but obviously this means sticking nails into the plynths again and generally making the thing look ridiculous. Also, the newly fitted windows are not sealed correctly and are extremely draughty.
Redrow have refused to replace like with like as per our specification due to reasons of cost. They proposed that they could paint over the nail heads to patch up the job. We refused. Today they entered our property at the back and painted over the nails against our express permission. Obviously we are furious at this.
Could someone please advise us as to this situation. This is just one of a long list of problems. We just want windows that match, that are the same as what we paid for and that are NOT draughty.
Many thanks
Mike
