    Default Sound Problems

What noises should you hear from next door though the wall?

    I can hear the following:-
When they shut any door/cupboard, - this sounds like someone in my house.
    Conversations
When the walk upstairs it sounds like someone in my house walking up the stairs.
    Coughing
    Laughing
    Urinating
    Music

    The list is endless.

The builders say that the walls are built upto regulations, they are going to do a sound test next week so hopefully they will have to do something.

Has anyone experienced anything like this?

It sounds like the property will fail the sound test. The problem is that builders for ?30 can now self-certify their properties avoiding the need for expensive sound tests. This is fine as long as the correct materials are used and they are installed correctly.

The company that runs the scheme is called Robust Details Ltd set up following representations from the House Builders Federation (HBF) regarding Part E of teh building regulations, the house-building industry was invited to develop an alternative to pre-completion sound testing, called 'robust details', for new build separating walls and floors for houses and flats - the principle being that robust details would provide consistently good performance eliminating the need for pre-completion sound testing

Of course it does make it cheaper for the builders, a saving which I am sure is passed on in full to the home buyer.

We had similar problems in one of our previous houses (hence why we now live detached) I looked into a few companies like this one http://www.noisestopsystems.co.uk/ at the time but we actually moved before I could do anything about it.

Has anyone else tried a similar system?

    Cheers, Rob.
