| Will they acknowledge a Professional snagging report??
Hi,
I am new to this forum and new to the whole snagging issue.
My wife and I have just bought a new House from Bett homes.
As I work away from home, I arranged for a Snagging Professional
to be there on the day my wife got the keys. As far as I am concerned
the guy did an excellent job, highlighting 140 points, ranging from small
chips on the kitchen units, to cracked lintels above the garage doors, damaged
brickwork, damaged sills, mortar splatter and a garden that resembles down town
Basra. We submitted the report to Bett Homes and eventually got a reply (2 weeks later) from the Construction Director to say that they do not acknowledge the report.
I have tried to phone him to find out just what it is they don?t acknowledge, but he never seems to be at the end of a telephone. I have left a message for him to call me but I?m still waiting. In the mean time I will continue to take some interesting photos,
like the on suite cupboard door that cannot be opened as the toilet is hard up to it, pointed this out to the site Manager, ?Yes, the toilet has to be there due to the pipe configuration for this style of house?, ?we?ll take the door off for you?. Hmmm? How come it?s OK in the 2 show houses that have the toilet more central, rather than off to one side like ours?
Any ideas why they won?t acknowledge the report from a Snagging company?
Back to waiting for the phone to ring
Cheers
Steve

This is outrageous. If your snagging company provides an after care service, contact them immediately and get them to speak to the construction director. He, I seem to remember that it is a man, is just trying to make life difficult for you and is taking advantage of your ignorance.
I am assuming you are in Scotland. I am sure the Journalist from Frontline Scotland who is looking for snagging case studies would be interested in this. He posted in this forum a few weeks ago.
Good luck
Tony

Hi Tony,
Thanks for the reply.
Spent yet another day sitting by the phone, can never seem to track this guy down or get him to return my calls. I may need to consider meeting him face to face, or ask my solicitor to try contacting him.
Spoke to the snagging company, they would like me to try and get a list of what Betts will and will not acknowledge in writing. Took lots of photos today, a distinct lack of sealant between the wall and the soffit, the latter of which has two holes knocked into it roughly about Starling size. 95% of the glass in the house is damaged, at the rear of the house where the drainage pipes leave the wall there is a large hole right down to the foundations where the pipe goes, the list goes on and on and on.
As luck would have it, since getting the keys, I have spoken to several people
about the house and they all say they have had similar problems and would never touch Betts again. Wish they had told me earlier.
Oh well, onward and upward!
And yes, I am in Scotland, Sunny Aberdeen (ok, Wet Aberdeen)
Cheers for now
Steve

Nice to hear from someone else who has bought a house from bett homes, and is having problems, our snagging list is about the same length as yours Steve, little things like the heating system not being commisioned / connected was one of the items, we just thought it was the site we're on but it now looks more like a generic problem with Bett's.
Trying to find out from the NHBC how they can issue the CML for a house that most people would consider uninhabitable, no heating and water that cannot be left on due to it leaking! but that is proving to be like getting blood from a stone.

Hi Steve,
I am finding an ever growing number of people suffering a similar fate after buying a Bett house.
After the Construction Director refused to acknowledge our snagging list I tried phoning him for about a week. After leaving numerous messages for him to get back to me he eventually did, one week later and during the only 10 min period that I was away from the phone. The message he left was to tell us that someone would be up to see us the week commencing the 5th Oct, a week later there is still no sign of anyone. We still have a large hole in the back garden where the drainage pipes go, we still have a hole right through to the kitchen where the VERY expensive garden tap is situated, still have radiators that don't work, and so on and so on. The two weeks waiting were not wasted as I have some very nice photos of the faults which will be finding themselves on a CD in the very near future. Now who do I post them to first?
Oh, and just arrived in the post this morning, a Customer satifaction form from the MD of Bett Homes.
Quick! Wheres my pen?
Keep fighting the good fight
regards
Steve

Hi Steve,
Can't wait for our customer satisfaction form, we've only been here 4 months and no sign of it yet. If it's from the MD then I do not think we'll get one as he already knows about the problems and I feel another dsisatisfied customer email heading his way tonight or tomorrow. Not sure if your site is similar but the subcontractors seem to be ok but getting the site people to do anything other than ignore you is impossible.
I've had a shot at contacting the MD of Betts and if I'm not getting any more joy from him by the end of the month then I'll try the MD & founder of the Gladedale group. The NHBC seem to be a waste of time, I've asked their customer services over 1 week ago what the requirements are for a house to get it's CML certificate and I've still had no response, tried calling them last week to chase it up and the customer services was closed for 2 days!!!!
Was wondering if trading standards could do anything about it, as far as I'm concerned I've bought and paid for a house that doesn't meet the description or workmanship levels that are expected. I'm not in the building trade by any means but I'm sure I could knock a house together on my own that is of a better standard of finish than this one
Regards Steve

Hi guys,
First post for me......
Gutted to read about your experiences as I'm expecting my keys for the Aberdeen Woodlands house in the next few months.
I did a search on Google and found this thread.......
Does anyone see any value in setting up a wee forum specifically for the Bett Cove site ? It would be hard to broadcast this to existing residents but I'm tempted to do it to alleviate everyones grief ? Any thoughts ?
Keep up the pestering !

Calum

Hi Calum,
I'm currently outside the UK, but am due to return on the 26th.
I hope all goes well when you get your keys.
We are now at the stage of sending another full report inluding
a CD full of photos to the MD for North East Scotland. Up to this point I
had been relatively patient. However the time has come to take it to the next level. While standing outside one day last week, our neighbour was telling me that they didn't have any problems, however, we then noticed that
the wall to roof face was not sealed, and where the Gas pipes entered the house also hadn't been sealed. I believe they are now up to 110 items on a list. It is a lovely style of house but the workmanship is so poor it really lets it down. I was eventually told that someone would come and see us the week starting the 3rd Oct. I sat in for almost 2 weeks, they came on the
21st when no one was in.
role on the 26th
regards
Steve
