Hi
We've bought a new Scotia Home. Not moved in yet, but we've watched it being built over the past months and everything was fine until we visited the site today.
Our home is in a cul-de-sac and for some reason instead of the front garden being level, the builders have built the road up uotside our house alone, so that it resembles a ski slope. The level of the road/pathway is higher than the bottom of our windows and instead of a front lawn we now have a bank supporting the heightened road surface.
Subsequently our home looks like it's sunk. I can't see any reason why the builders have done this except being too lazy to remove the accumulated earth, as the road has to dip down on either side in order to access the adjoining properties.
There are still 8 weeks till completion and handover, what can we do, if anything?
All help gratefully received.
Mark
Hi Mark,
This doesn't sound right, but it is difficult to say without seeing a picture. I would mention it to the site manager and see what he or she says. Additionally, it is unlikely to have had its final inspection by the NHBC and won't have a habitation certificate inspection. If there is a problem, it should be picked up during these insepctions. For information, the NHBC technical standards state that the ground level should be 150mm below the DPC (damp proof course).
Hope this helps.
Let us know what happens.
Kind regards
Tony
