    Default An 'un-golden' silence!!!

 I can't fathom this out......I can be in any of the ground and first floor rooms yet despite double glazing, I can hear sounds outside very clearly indeed......our neighbour, (although he likes to hear his voice..we call him 'boomer') and any one else stood outside the house can be clearly heard inside!
I thought double glazing would insulate this noise to a degree, why then can so much sound be heard inside the property??? Th children playing in the street, the occasional passing car, the odd bark of a dog.....these can all be heard. I have closed the trickle vents at the top of the windows but this seems to make no difference. I know on some of the windows the gaps between the frames and the walls wree quite large and have been filled with mastic, but surely this would block any sound? I am sure that the walls have insulation fitted, as I have photos taken during constuction, but cannot be sure if this extended round to all walls?
Does anyone have any ideas of what the problem may be and how I could solve this? (Have asked the neighbour to keep quiet but this doesn't seem to work....only joking!)

There are different specifications of double-glazing like anything else, so perhaps this is the problem. There was a post by farnell about this recently it might be worth senging him a private message. He also bought a Persimmon home.

[quote:cf89b51422]However my neighbours got higher specification plumbing/heating & fittings along with better quality windows with "K" glass and all newly decorated! So buying the "showhome meant i completely after them with "Splash n Dash" touched up decorating and windows which were fitted by a contractor who went out of business and are of lesser specification but of a similar georgian design. As I live on a busy main road the difference in the windows makes alot of difference to the incomming noise levels from the road and draughts etc. [/quote:cf89b51422]
