    Default Central heating

Hi there, since my aged parent took possession of her new Charles Church home in 2007, the heating has never worked truly efficiently.

At 4 years is it now too late to get someone to look at this problem? They said the property(ies) were built to the latest specs and insulated to the latest regs, yet this house costs more to run than her last property...

    Thanks

Has loft insulation been installed? Do all the radiators heat up when heating is on? any drafts from windows etc? New build houses are usually pretty efficient nowadays, but it could be something simple like radiators needing bleeding etc.

If not then you could go back to the builder if you have consistently complained to them regarding this,

They've all been checked by a plumber, the roof is insulated. the windows are double glazed units. The property is 4 years old... It's colder than my mother's last house which was built in the 70s....

You probably have checked this, but have you checked that you have cavity insulation installed? this sometimes gets forgotten on the odd occasion in the build process, all you need to do is take an external vent cover off and check the cavity, if nothing is there that is yor problem. If not, if the new house is detached or semi but the old one was terraced this can make a large difference.

I would expect that the older house had heating that may have been upgraded.
New homes heating is designed on a minimum basis. The smallest boiler and smallest radiators for a given minimum room temperature.

Older house also have working chimneys and a proper fire will keep any house cosy!

In addition, people feel the cold more as they get older too.
