Default Defective front door

I moved into my miller home 18 months ago and have had good service up til now- about a month ago my front door locking mechanism became defective, once locked you now have to lift the handle again before unlocking. Miller sent someone out and they said that it was due to us using excessive force!!! how ridiculous- all we do is check that the door is locked before going out etc ( something I have always done in every house I have lived in). They have said that there is nothing they can do - is this right?? Incidentally my next door neighbours door is exactly the same.

They have advised me to contact NHBC and use their resolution service.

Anyone got any advice for me ?

Have you tried taking the lock mech out and giving is spray with some oil, they can tend to dry up and cease

If i remember correctly, mechanical items such as a door locking system is only warrantied for 1 year. That is the case if you have it fitted on your new build property or purchasing a system for an older property.
Have you checked to see if the door is warped through water ingress or 'dropped' therefore the locking mechanism won't catch? Is it a wood front door? Have you checked to see that it is sealed undernath?
