Screwed by property management company
Hi. My fiancée moved into her house about 2 and a half years back, and almost since day one, have had issues with a lot of things. We have been dealing with HLM the property management company since that date, but mostly, seem to have been talking to a brick wall.
After 2 or 3 changes of management and owners at HLM, we finally seem to be getting somewhere, and somewhat unsurprisingly, are blaming the home builders, Persimmon Homes, for the vast majority of the problems we are facing.
The main issues seem to be related to the internal wiring of the house, and are affecting things like lighting, heaters and our Sky TV service.
Today has been the first time we have been told by HLM, the management group, that we needed to contact Persimmon directly... up until now, HLM have taken responsibility, said they will look into it, and then never do anything about it. However, today they said it seems to be the internal wiring, and that it isn't their problem.
This is nice of them, because it is now 4 months past the end of the builders warranty, and they are saying there is nothing they will do, it is our responsibility. HLM then told me that if we want it fixing through them, the only way it can be done is if all the tenants agree to pay to repair all of the apartments, as much of the problem is in the shared wiring.
Is there anything we can do? Does the fact that we complained to HLM give us any leeway with regards to the Persimmon warranty, or are we going to end up shelling out thousands to fix the wiring of the entire block of homes, several of which are currently unoccupied.
