Thumbs down Argyll View Greenock - massive delays and kick in the teeth...

Hi all. In reading through this forum I have now realised we are not unique!
We paid for a reservation on a new build Persimmons home in September last year, with the promise of being in in January, this was then extended to March, then April. We tried to rescind from the contract, only to be "assured" that it would be ready in May/June!
Needless to say, we are still waiting now and have now been told the end of August.
To rub salt in the wounds, we now see that the same estate is offering incentives to prospective new purchasers, inthe same first phase of development! On contacting them we were told in no uncertain terms that these offers were not applicable to us.
No wonder they have recently laid off 1100 people!
It is a disgrace that these people are allowed to carry out business n such an underhanded and uncivilised way.

Hi Shaddy,

Have you talked to your solicitor? Although the written contract will not mention any completion date a contract should be complete within a reasonable period. The question is what is reasonable - often this is what a reasonable person thinks - again not incredibly helpful. I would say that if you have to wait over a year then you might be able to rescind without losing your deposit. It is also worth mentioning that many sales agents will make promises that they know they can't deliver on just to make a sale. I guess the initial promise that you would be in by January is an example of this. This is an interesting read - Verbal Promises | Consumer Information

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Tony

Thanks for the replies guys, still waiting on word back from Persimmon via my solicitor. Furthermore, I have just been informed that they now have a situation with Scottish Water with respect to laying of watermains pipework. Unless I'm very much mistaken, this will delay us even more.
I have really lost all faith in their company now.
