Default Praise where its due

Much of this site is negative and rightly so but i must praise persimmon. Yes they have taken longer than expected to build our new house, yes the customer service has been appauling but in this last 3 weeks they have been excellent. Site have made major errors but with 1 day left of our mortgage offer and a cml at 5pm last night - following the gas meter 1 hour before we have completed. what a relief! i've had much stress and lack of sleep lately but on our new home demo last friday the house is beautiful. i'm sure we'll have plenty of snagging but i just feel Persimmon do deserve some praise and it would be a true reflection if there was some on here. they build thousands of houses each year and i bet people only come on here to complain. Will keep you posted on any problems we do have but at the mo i am just soooooo relieved.

MissusD,

Correct me if I am wrong but are you saying that you have just completed, i.e. just got your keys and have taken over full ownership, and you have already experienced appauling customer service, faults and the like?

Don't want to burst your bubble and I sincerely hope that I am wrong but now that they have your money and you have taken the property off their hands, I suspect you are going to see a different side to Persimmon.

Most developers do pull out the stops until they have your money. Once this happens getting anything done is a nightmare - which is what most complain about on this site.

Perhaps your praise is a little premature. Would love to be proved wrong but after 5 years of dealing with another developer (Bett Homes / Gladedale) I haven't, yet.

yes we have just completed and they have our money. My friends have moved onto the same site 2 weeks ago and they are more than happy with the service they have recived so far. our main problem has actually been with the sales 'lady'. The site managers have been excellent. communication isn't their strong point but they are there to build houses. will keep you's posted but it would be nice if buying a new home wasn't such a stress.

You will be unlucky to get a "home from hell" but you need to make yourself an informed buyer - you are in the right place...

Glad you are happy with your new home.
There are genuine problems with Persimmon Homes and this site is a coorect reflection of what goes on.

See my website my snags have not yet been completed and I have to take Persimmon to Court to get them done.

Hi! i wish to reiterate the excellent service we have had from our site manager at willow edge. we have been in our new build for 5 months now. we have had a few problems but i firmly believe that you need to have a good relationship with your site manager. you need to be understanding that yours is not the only house they have to look after and realise that somethings that seem urgent to you are not life threattening! just a bit annoying. you need to have some patience. that said, any problems we have had have been sorted within days of them being reported. i definately would buy a new build from persimmon and cannot praise my site manager and his staff enough.
tradesmen are notorious for being slack and we have had quite a bit of slack plumbing. a2 bad leaks into the kitchen and a damaged carpet. the plumber was sacked and our faults have been rectified. please remember we're all human! and so are the site managers. yes it is your new home but if you think all the parts and time involved in building then the law of averages is going to be that its not gonna be 100% perfect. just like with a car. i think its more because new homes have a replutation sometimes of being faulty. if it was a second hand home it would just be something you would have to pay for and sort out and at least you have a team of people who do your snagging and fix it at no cost to you.
