Our new home is so cold and draughty. Winter was a nightmare with downstairs freezing and top of the stairs roasting because all the warm air from the heating is being forced upwards by all the cold air rushing in from outside. All of the windows are very draughty at frames and vents. The two extractors on the outside wall are basically just holes through the wall to the outside so the utility room and downstairs loo are freezing especially when it's windy. The back and front doors are draughty and have water coming in. There are holes behind all the radiators which are unsealed and cold air floods in through these too. The kitchen units have draughts coming in all over the place and the draught from the boiler cupboard is very severe. I can't get anywhere with Persimmon who just send out a tradesman/contractor who either tells me there isn't a problem or does a bit of work which doesn't make any difference. They did a bit of work on the doors and windows but nothing that's made much of a difference to the drafts. I have a chronically ill and disabled son who's housebound and too ill to attend school. I thought I would be providing a well insulated cosy home for him. Instead he's in a very poorly insulated home which feels like the windows are open all winter. I only went downstairs when I had to cook for my son in the winter. Had to stay upstairs to keep warm. It's very depressing and Persimmon couldn't care less. The joiner who looked at the holes behind the radiators today told me the holes aren't excessive so they wouldn't be sealed. I reckon being able to fit four fingers in the hole is pretty excessive. The wind blowing through it is definitely excessive. I'm up during the night caring for my son and don't get much sleep and I'm just worn out with the stress of trying to get Persimmon to get these drafts sorted. Dreading another winter like this last one. What a nightmare
