Potential Persimmon Customer - READ ME!
We had heard about Persimmon’s poor build quality when we were looking to buy a house from them 18 months ago on a new development called Katherine Park in Corsham, Wiltshire. I’d done my homework on the internet and didn’t find much but came across this snagging website, we’d read through all the listings for Permission and presumed (wrongly) that this estate was OK and the sales staff had sold us the great persimmon package including the customer care propaganda leaflets.
From day one we should have realised Persimmon doesn’t do quality when the fancy looking green ring binder they gave us was broken when we got it home and the pen didn’t work... A sure sign of things to come.
Doesn’t the Show Home look great, aren’t we all sold by this gleaming example of the perfect house with perfect ‘finishing touches’? Don’t you just one!... Then buy the show home. We all buy into the Persimmon fairy tale but reality is once they have your money they don’t care what they give you (where have you read that before). We also bought a new ceramic floor for the kitchen & utility through ‘finishing touches’ believing we would get the same high standard as the Show Home, we didn’t! And if we had gone to a local tradesman we would have got better service and had more influence in getting it resolved as we wouldn’t have paid the whole cost up front before seeing it completed (this is still not resolved).
We had our completion date delayed because Persimmon couldn’t finish the house and the Close in 12 months and it was a desperate rush by them to even finish it when they did. We employed New Build as we became increasingly concerned with the sales staff lack of reassurances on our many concerns. When site knew we were bringing experts to snag the property they wanted to do an ‘extra’ persimmon quality check of the house... not that we noticed, as we found electrical sockets hanging of the wall and a live electric transformer hanging over the top of the kitchen units. New Build picked up over 200 snagging items that day, some of which we are still chasing through today with their assistance.
Most of our neighbours have and are also having snagging issues with their homes and like us have become angry and disillusioned with the difference between what we were all sold, and we have all actually got. You may read this and think, my new house will be different. I hope it is, as I wouldn’t wish our last 18 months on my worst enemy.
If we had seen this or any of the Persimmon threads on this website especially for this housing estate we wouldn’t being living in a Persimmon house today and with a second phase of building by Persimmon on this estate future buyers need to be very aware of what they are buying into, not just of the initial outlay but the hidden costs of your time, your money and your effort in chasing them to put things right and the REALITY of the Persimmon after-sales/customer care.
