Advice with Charles Church

Hi All

I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice regarding a Charles Church home. I am planning to buy one of their Blacksmith Cottage's. Does anyone have one of these, have you had any problems? As I gather they are a rebrand of Persimmon which I have not heard great stories about...

Hi Martin,

This is a common question. You have to remember that these houses are generally built by random assortments of contractors the company in question offers little apart from a brand and all the gloss. If the site already has residents knock on a few doors and find out how they feel about their new home and Charles Church, have a look round the site. Does it appear well managed? Clean, safe, tidy, workers wearing hard hats etc.

I think the key here is if the there is sufficient site supervision, if not then there could be problems which may be difficult to put right properly. (See http://charles-church.org.uk/read.php?3,22,22#msg-22 as one choice example, other builders will have their own).
You will pay a premium for a Charles Church property over a Persimmon one, with a higher quality of internal fixtures and fittings.
I agree with what Tony said, talk to any existing owners.
