I bought this house from Persimmon 3 years past in September £320,000 and I have still got workmen doing snagging, there customer service is non existing, I have had more meetings with the contracts manager and director than I have with my own wife, they have taken the ceilings down in the lounge, then 4 months later they have to take the ceiling down in the dining room, and put bars in because of the noise from the floors above, we have had leaks through the ceilings, they then cut hatches in the ceiling and leave it for months, they send out painters that cant do the job, I had tradesmen standing on my leather suite to paint a ceiling, we have a water logged back garden, the NHBC are not any better, they are for the builder not for the buyer, it is just a complete shambles and I would not recommend Persimmon to my worst enemy, so be warned before even considering buying from them, they always talk the walk at the sales side, however once they have your money forget it, and if you should buy from them and find yourself having problems, keep notes of all corespondance with them and take photos for proof, they will always make out your a lier, when they say they will do something and come out to do it you will find something will not be on there line so wont get done.
I can sympathise with you Allan, I live in the same development, however at least you managed to get them to attend to the snagging!
I gave up on the snagging after the first 6 months, however in my 5 years there I've had £2k of damage to my car after incorrectly fixed ridge tiles blew onto my car (confirmed they were incorrectly fixed by my insurer's building surveyor), and a leaky conservatory that's been attended to no less than 10 times over the years - Persimmon pass the buck to the sub contractors and the sub contractors are useless, NHBC are the "home builder's council", for the home builder, not the buyer, and are only there in my opinion to provide some paperwork to help builders sell houses on the basis of conning the buyer into thinking he has some sort of decent guarantee.
I've taken so many days of work due to problems with my house that I've decided it's cheaper to pay someone to fix things properly out of my own pocket!
I totally agree with all mentioned.I have actually been told that central heating boiler hasn't been installed properly by two gas fitters..surprise..no reply from Persimmons. The quality of building materials is very poor and plumbing disgraceful.I have lived in several houses, old and new. This has got to be the worst ever.Don't believe myth about forking out for repairs on old property and sadly that's the reason I moved to this modern estate..how ironic!!
They are standard setters and without the NHBC, new home standards would be much much WORSE!
It may be of little consolation to the posts below who have my sympathy.
Persimmon do not appear to treat "customer care" as their number one concern.
It is and always will be, the number of homes sold and profits.
All you can do is keep on complaining in writing to the CEO Mike Farley if necessary.
(contact details and template letters are on my website).
At the end of the day the NHBC will put major defects right - but then again there shouldnt be so many defects in new homes anyway!
Persimmon are only '3 star' rated by the House Builders Federation customer survey (2011) an organisation that does serve the house builder's interests. This tells you everything you need to know about Persimmon Homes!
