Hi there,
Milton of Leys itself is a nice area. There are a few problems, in terms of a lack of amenities. The good news is, there is an extremely active residents association who are pushing to have these problem addressed.
We have been in Inverness for just under a year, and so far it has been the best move we have ever made. Our standard of life is so much better in the highlands, the only problem we have had, has been with Tullochs. On the Sunday when there are no builders on site, the area is very quiet and you do get an amazing view. One thing that I had not really thought about was living on the side of a hill. When it is windy you will know about it
The first question I would ask is, have you ever bought a new build home before? The second is are you moving up due to work? The only reason I ask is we moved up after my wife was offered a job with Lifescan.
Our current house is the second new build we have lived in, since we moved up. We made the silly mistake of renting one for 5 months before moving into our own new build. Don’t rent a new build, nothing is more annoying than paying to do someone else’s snagging for them.
In terms of the build quality from Tullochs it is ok. You do get the impression that they are building them as quickly as possible and rushing them, but on the whole we have not had as many snagging issues as in the UBC built rental house. This is lucky as Tullochs are extremely slow to fix any snagging once you move in, yet again it makes you think they are more concerned getting the new ones built and making more money than looking after the people they have already got money from. The one thing that does bother me, is all the contractors, carpet fitters and people that deal with them a lot, always say Tullochs are bad for settlement due to how fast they are building them. I wish someone had told me this before I spent money on Karndean flooring.
In terms of the nightmare we had, I have to say we are a one off in the street. We were just extremely unlucky to be at the very end of the site. Not a single other plot has had the number of problems we have had. What I will say is all the neighbours I have spoken to agree that Tullochs do not have any real after sales service and if you are unhappy about anything once you move in, tough. Tullochs do the bear minimum in order to meet building regulations and that is it. We are getting nowhere with Robert MacLean, the buildings manager, and the more people tell me about him, the more I think we will get nowhere dealing with him. If I was you I would look into purchasing a house in the Milton of Leys area that is 6 months to a year old. The building site will have moved away, the road and pavement surface will be finished and most of the snagging, fencing, and garden will be done for you.
If you want to chat more about moving up here, Tullochs or just general questions about new builds feel free to get in contact, my e-mail is
