This is very common in new build homes, they should have told you to keep cupboard doors slightly open etc. This is normal in a booklet and DVD from a warranty provider. However, their attitude is absolutely disgusting. If they didn't provide you with this info then they have failed in their duty of care and you could make a small claim.

Hi

I am currently having major problems with Harron Homes. They have refused to help despite me writing to them on many occasions to explain that I have major internal and external cracks. The builders just kept telling me it was 'drying out'. I am now involved with NHBC and could be looking at moving out for six months whilst the foundations are all redone. The builders have taken short cuts and as a result my house (and neighbours) are literally falling apart. My advice would be to stay well away from Harron Homes.

I contacted the nhbc technical helpdesk (what a joke) regarding movement joints and while the person on the helpdesk did know what they were they didn't have a clue as to how and where they are applied.
Thermal movement has been a consideration in structural design for some time now, believe it or not. This is why there are funny little numbers called coefficients of thermal expansion that are used to calculate how much movement will occur. This is also why there are equally funny things called movement joints. It is not rocket science.
If a defect occurs because of thermal movement then the design of the element is inadequate or the construction is sub-standard. None of which is the fault of the homeowner.
It is all just house builder’s lies.

thank you someone that finally has let the cat out of the bag
this is so needed to show averavge joe that the insurance etc are trying to pull the wool over our eyes.

Seen this many times. Beware of Insurance paid loss adjusters. Dependant on the position & type of the cracks determines if they are thermal or structural.

I have seen cracks labeled as thermal by NHBC reps, been diagnosed as severe enough that it was paid for the building to be rebuilt.

Try this guy theexpertengineer.co.uk

Good luck

Has any one justifiably and reasonably complained to HH and been accused of being rude? and HH then refusing to deal with you .

AN OLD BUILDING TRADE TRICK TO DEAL WITH COMPLAINTS!
