I have read quite a few horror stories about noise from neighbours but these all seem to relate to new build apartments. My concern is that I have lived in a 5 bed detached house for years but now that our kids have grown and gone its a complete waste. We have 3 rooms that no one ever enters anymore. We decided to look around at smaller homes and found a New Build semi detached over 3 floors which seems just what the doctor ordered BUT........
We checked out the builder’s show houses one of which is a similar design and my wife went into one whilst I pottered around in the other. She subsequently told me that she could clearly hear me closing doors, kitchen units and going up and down the stairs.
I asked her to return and do the same and then also turn a few taps on and flush the loo's on each floor and YES, I could hear them but only faintly.
Mind you I'm probably more deaf than she is.
I guess what I am asking here is, is this standard for new build semi's & terraces? Are there worse? Can you hear the next doors TV as standard etc?
Any insight or advice would be much appreciated.
Yes, I suppose we should look at a smaller detached instead but nothing compares size or layout wise for the price & if I am going to pay higher then there's little point in moving at all.

Hi There
To be totally honest, in my opinion the only sure fired way to avoid hearing the neighbours is not to have any!
Stay with your detached otherwise you could well regret the move.
