Default Fed Up With Your New Home?

Having purchased a new build George Wimpey home in December 2005 at Hamstreet near Ashford and having had, todate, in excess of 200 snagging items (and counting!) wrong with the house, I have had as much as I can stomach from this builder of so-called quality homes. Thinking that we were nearing the end of our plight, we have just learned that the builders failed to install the airvents around the base of the brickwork to prevent damp seeping into the house!! We are one of 46 properties on the Development and George Wimpey have written to most homeowners on the site explaining that they need to survey most (or all) properties to establish how many houses have non-existant vents!! So far 4 have been highlighted as needing attention following damp appearing on furniture inside homes and skirting boards. The Contractor's are having to excavate the gardens and dig-up laid patios in order to get to the foundations. One family have been moved out so that the Contractor's can drill out the flooring on the ground level inorder to lay pipes under the house, work which should have been done at the out-set.

George Wimpey will not entertain the subject of compensation. As Kent Trading Standards told me - 'You have more consumer rights when buying a tin of baked bins'!! How right are they.

Tony is on a distinguished road
Default Re:Fed Up With Your New Home?

Gross incompetence on a massive scale and massive disruption to hundreds of people. It might be worth organising yourselves and getting a solicitor to take on your case as a group. There are a number of TV researchers looking for stories and this would perfect. E-mail me your contact details at tony@snagging.org and I'll pass them on.

Tony

BTW Kent trading standards are correct
