Does anyone know what the limits on external door frames are with respect to how square they are?
I've got a 2cm difference in the diagonals, and my housebuilder is talking about the planing the doors to make them fit.
Is this getting too close to a square peg in a round hole?
I'm worried that I may have trouble replacing the doors at some time in the future.:S
There are no tolerances quoted in NHBC Standards but they do state that frames should be fixed 'level and plumb' and that they should not be distorted.
A 2cm difference in diagonals is quite outrageous (I assume you did mean cm and not mm)so, quite clearly, something has become badly distorted. It should be apparent if you were to check the levels of the jambs and head with a spirit level.
You should insist that the frames are taken out, the opening is checked and it should all be re-fixed correctly.
Thanks for the advice. I wasn't sure where I stood, but the info will give me some confidence in complaining.
I'll try to get it sorted properly, but they are an awkward lot here
(I've already had two joiners and the door manufacturer here over the last few weeks trying to fix them - it is both the front and back doors).
I have had enough wedges inserted between the frames and the brickwork to correct the vertical plumb line, but the frames are still not horizontal. My spirit level had already told me it wasn't horizontal, but never really sure with DIY grade tools.
