Hello all
It's been nearly six months since we bought our new house from an independent builder - his first development. I used the snagging list and he put right most of the minor snags, although he didn't seem to like being asked to do stuff. The selling feature(wow factor)was a 42'fitted plasma screen and sunken speakers. All the associated wiring came out by some fitted shelving on the opposite side of the room where the box of tricks was to reside. On the final inspection they rigged up a dvd player to show it worked. However once in we discovered that essential wiring linking the 4 terraced houses wasn't connected to the main cable in the road - this took 3 months to sort and when virgin finally came to fix it up once we'd bought the package they said that they didn't understand the wiring and put a new length of cable around the top of the room to the screen so that the whole look is ruined as the box of tricks has to sit under the screen instead of being hidden. Also the speakers aren't connected/working. The girl down the end has to have a TV as she gets no sound at all from hers. Although the virgin lads weren't the brightest sparks can we hold the builder responsible for not having it all sorted and to get it sorted as it was a selling point?
Anybody had a similar experience?

The only way forward is to get the company who did the original installation and the Virgin installation team to talk to each other so as they each understand the other's systems. They should then certainly be able to agree to the correct solution, but will probably disagree about responsibility.
I would suggest that it is the builder, who contracted the original installation, who should 'project manage' this side of things, by bringing both companies to the table and banging heads together, but also warn you not to hold your breath.

A similar story occured a few years ago in my neighbourhood. You should contact the builder and put a little pressure on him so that the he really tries to solve the problems. Otherwise this could become a never ending story.
