Default has my road been adopted

Hi

How can you tell if the road on a new build estate has been adopted ?

Im sure i heard a roumor that our road hasnt been adopted yet. I assumed it had as uur bins are collected weekly and we dont have to pay any maintenance charge for the "open space" as this has apparntly been adopted.

Until the roads are adopted does it mean that if there was a problem with sewers or roads the houses on the road would be responsible for them or would it fall with the develope ?

cheers

Hi, you need to speak to the local council to find this out. If the roa is never to be adopted i.e. a private road then you might be able to get a reduction in your Council Tax.

Hope this helps

thanks tony

I phoned the council up and it appears the road is still in its 12 month maintenance period but it is due to be adopted by the council.

Mind at ease

many thanks

I experienced problems with an unadopted road 3 years ago. I had to phone several administration bodies until the issue was fixed.

Any advice would be welcome - our cul-de-sac has been roughly tarmacced and had temporary pavements put round it, but the approved plans were for block paviors and grass verges. There's a significant drainage problem on the site and nowhere to park cars , so some neighbours want to keep tarmac and pavements, others want the verges.

On most sites parking is an absolute nightmare once everybody has moved in and a cause of significant conflict. I would say go for the parking i.e. tarmac.
