Re:Problems with new GW home in Sidcup I brought a brand new GW house off plan in 2005, and I am still discovering problems today (almost 2 years and asking GW to put right. They have challenged me all the way. I have had 3 NHBC resolution visits, 3 visits from the regional MD and I am now waiting for more tradesmen to turn up to fix things. But beware of the tradesmen putting things right, because they'll end up breaking or damaging something else, so you have to watch them like a hawk. Also be prepared for GW to tell you that whatever you have found to complain about is within NHBC tolerence. I am so fed up, I now wish that I hadn't brought this house in the first place. It's too late now, but your inlaws would be better of buying a 1930's house and bringing it up to modern standards. The build quality was so much better then and they seemed to be using skilled tradesmen. Good luck with your battles, as I have not had an easy time, I must have written a tree worth of letters between GW and the NHBC. But what I would suggest is that your in-laws should instruct a chartered surveyor (with letters after their name) to carry out a 'HomeBuyers' Survey as this is legally binding as it has been carried out by a professional body and GW will have to acknowledge it's findings. This may cost in the interim but will save time and effort over the longer period as the survey should spot the major faults. This is something I should have done, but went for a snagging inspection by a non professional body which GW totally ignored and apparently are not oblighed to acknowledge. |
